Getting the Shot!!! August 15 2016
What an 18hr whirlwind! Last week I was asked to style a photoshoot. A super sweet woman and her male business partner needed new pics for a press release. It was to announce their new position in the insurance world. What a cool opportunity! Her name was Negar, a beautiful and super petite chick. Usually I offer my clients to use my TADofstyle clothes in their photoshoots. However, Negar was so tiny we used her own wardrobe. As for Phil, her partner, he brought his own digs too. TAD doesn't provide men's clothing...yet;) I spoke with Negar the night right before the morning of the shoot. I typically do a free 1/2 hour consultation to get our game plan together. She was so excited, and her energy got me pumped up to style this dynamic duo! We chatted outfits, what to bring, makeup, hair, accessories, and timeline of events. The photographer was working with them for 2hrs so we had a lot of time to get tons of shots with wardrobe changes. That's my favorite kind of shoot!
Negar came to my studio the next morning at 8a with everything in tow. We hit it off right away! What a relief! We first went over her wardrobe options. Since this was a professional shoot, we kept it classy and modern. Exactly what she was wanting. We narrowed it down to two looks that were perfect for her tiny frame. Then Phil arrived, coffee a flowin!' I coordinated his shirt, tie, and jacket options to Negar's looks. It worked out perfectly. Very dapper, yet personable. A perfect combo for the professional man.
Now on to the glam! Second cup of coffee under our belts, I did her makeup first. It's important to go a little heavier for pictures, but still light colors not to distract. Another TAD tip for ya. Then onto the hair. Negar asked me to put her clip-ins on to add some body. It's a great idea for photos...another TAD tip. They can be purchased to match your hair color at Beauty Supply stores. I highly recommend them. I put some curls in with my wand, and boom! She was a bombshell.
The photographer came early to set up lighting and took some fabulous indoor portrait shots of the two together and separately. I touched them up as needed. Also, twisting and turning them to get some on point poses. Then we headed out to the streets of Park Ave, Winter Park. Rose Reid, owner of Rose Reid Photography captured great candid shots and more relaxed action photos. Those off-the-cuff moments really capture the essence of the subjects. Again, I was there every step of the way. Touching them up, adjusting their poses, directing the shots, and applying gloss over and over, lol! So why do you need a photoshoot stylist? It's sooo important! You spend the money on a talented photographer that handles the lighting, editing, and getting "the shot." My job is to make the subjects look and feel their best during the process. Why spend the money and not have it be more than you imagined? I love my job. I help bring out the excitement and confidence in people. Also, who doesn't love to get dressed up, glammed up, and turned up?! I had such a great experience. Negar and Phil are so pleased with Rose's finished product. They landed the press release pics and rocked it! Couldn't be happier for them!!!
Cut it OUT! June 28 2016The big trend right now is peek-a-boo cut outs. You see it everywhere from the red carpet to skinny jeans. I happen to be a big fan. It adds a little edge without looking trashy, lol. Isn't that what all girls want?;) When rockin' this look, make sure your cut-outs aren't too big. It should be subtle and sophisticated...note back to the not trashy comment. Small slices of skin are in! They can accentuate your ribs, abs, and shoulders. Here's a TAD tip...only cut out one or two places at a time....again refer back to the not trashy comment. This look is here to stay all summer long so take advantage of this sexy, chic style! On my site, www.TADofstyle.com, you can order the Kylie Cut-Out Dress for a really reasonable price. So check it out! Only one left here in stock! xx, TAD
The Key to Savvy Shopping! June 07 2016
I used to lovvvve real key accessories when I was little. Remember Janet Jackson’s earring in her Control video?? Eeeek that totally just aged me. Whatever, I’m an eighties baby…there I said it. It was super cool to take an old key, put it on a chain for a necklace or a hoop for an earring. I did it. We all did it. Now, the trend is back. This time with a twist. Manufacturers are engraving inspirational words on the metal. For example, “love,” “courage,” and “strength.” How cute is that?! So here’s a savvy shopping story for ya. While I was at the Mart shopping in Atlanta, which by the way is a shopaholic’s dream drug! I found these fabulous metal keys engraved with sayings on long metal chains. They weren’t fresh, clean gold but darker, worn metal. So unique…so I had to buy for my TADofstyle.com customers.
Then, about a month later, Im browsing around Nordstroms in Tampa. I go all the way to Tampa since they stupidly took Nordstroms out of Orlando. Don’t even GET me started!! While I was in the accessories department, I found very similar key necklaces. I was so excited that my wholesale purchase for TADofstyle was on point. As I’m comparing pieces, I got even more excited when I saw their price. Nordstroms was selling their almost EXACT pieces for double what I charge. Yasssss! Nordstroms Key Necklaces: $40. TADofstyle Key Necklaces:$18. I was on trend AND on the money. If you’re into this new trend, be a savvy shopper and get the look for less at TADofstyle.com. Happy Shopping Ladies!
Pop-Up in DC! June 04 2016
If you haven’t been to one yet, the new trend among ladies is Pop-Up Parties. Everything from skincare to health and wellness is hot, hot, hot! I’ve been hosting pop-up parties for my clothes and accessories. Florida is my main spot. Women have asked me to host their private parties so their guests can shop, shop, shop! I’m like a traveling boutique circus. I bring the rolling racks, boxes of accessories, and clothes. Ya know that clothing pole that retirees put across the backseat of their town cars?? I have that, ha! Smart and easy way to travel with pieces so they don’t wrinkle. I’ve done parties in Jacksonville, Tampa, Clearwater, Pampano Beach, and Orlando. I love personal styling women, giving them personal attention…instead of them shopping alone online.
Then, good news! My sister lives in DC and wanted to have a party for her girlfriends. She went to enough events, tired of the same concepts. I was stoked when she asked me to fly from FL to DC to have a TADofstyle Pop-Up Shop! First thought, yes! Second thought, how was I going to pull off an out-of-state party. However, I couldn’t say no because it’d be too fun to pass up. So we picked a date, I packed up some clothes & accessories, and shipped off to DC!
I flew out the following week and stayed with my sister. Could have killed her though. I asked her what the weather was like so I could pack accordingly. She said to me “think Spring.” Being a Florida girl, I brought rompers, sandals, maxi dresses, etc. Well I get there and lose my s**t! It’s freezing!! People were literally in sweaters and gloves. I was livid as you can imagine. Did I mention I looked ridiculous in Florida spring clothes instead of jackets and beanies. The words FLORIDA TOURIST should have been plastered on my forehead!
The evening of the party was awesome! Ten DC girlies who have never seen my unique, exclusive pieces before. They like everything…or at least they told me so;) champagne was flowin’ and clothes were flyin’! We took pics or the girls in their new outfits, so I could use in social media. What a great way to advertise PERSONAL STYLIST & BOUTIQUE…WILL TRAVEL. This was a challenge, but so worth it. The girls had a fabulous girly night and I learned a lot about hosting an out-of-state par-tay! What an experience!
Keep your Boyfriend for the Summer!;) May 25 2016
I have to say…boyfriend jeans are here to stay in a big way! This spring is all about casual and comfortable. A light blue pair of distressed baggies will keep you on trend without looking like you’re trying to hard. I suggest keeping colored jeans as skinnies. A beautiful blue hue will do the trick. Stick with lighter shades moving into spring and summer. I say time to put those dark jeans away for fall and bring the boyfriend!
Find the “Charlie” Boyfriend Jean online at TADofstyle.com, $98.
Go Global:) May 23 2016
Summer is a time for traveling to exotic places, being in the sun, and sporting global glam! This time of year means fashion goes international. I can’t help but getting in the seasonal style. The trend is colorful patterns, beading, rope, leather, and other bright accessories. It gives a tropical punch to your favorite resortwear looks. This trend is definitely not for the office. I suggest saving this wild style for the weekend’s relaxing outfits. This should only be worn in small doses, not to overwhelm your head-to-toe look. That’s a TADtip that will come in handy when shopping. Consider adding a boho accessory to your wardrobe, such as: a sandal, beach bag, necklace, or scarf. Take note of the pic here. I’ve paired a tie-dye maxi dress with a red & gold tribal beaded necklace. Obsessed! To replicate this resort look, shop it at TADofstyle.com.
I DIE for Denim! May 23 2016
So many things are here one day, and gone the next…boyfriends, money, and those last few pounds you want to lose. One thing that is tried and true, always to you…denim. It’s here to stay people. It’s the signature style of the good ‘ol USA for goodness sake. Denim has evolved and has gone retro time and time again. Fitting and flattering on most body types, denim is everything!!! Take for example the jean skirt. Cool when I was an 80’s kid, medium when I was in high school, then an absolute NO as an adult. However, when a designer puts a modern spin on things, my style taste buds go nuts! Have I seen a destroyed denim skirt done right?? Nope. Not until now. I’m obsessed with Signature’s new take on this timeless classic jean skirt. It’s edgy rips are perfect for it’s color…the signature Levi’s blue. You won’t find this piece often! Shop this look on TADofstyle.com. The “Dina Denim Skirt” is only $89 and will stay a staple in your wardrobe. xx, TAD
Summer Sunnies:) May 23 2016
Summer is all about sculpted sunnies! Thick frames in acetate, PVC, and stainless steel are all the rage. Designers are creating translucent, smoky looks that still give you plenty of shade. Polorized sunnies are still popular at the pool or beach. J Crew’s latest version in brown acetate go for $128. Get the look for less at TADofstyle.com at $48. The “Bobby” Sunnies are a style score!
BIG on Blazers! May 23 2016
It’s always been a challenge for women to transition from day to night in style. My expert opinion, work a bold blazer! Perfectly professional at the office yet chic and sexy at dinner or drinks. This season, don’t limit yourself to a solid color. Try a bold print like florals, florals, florals! It’s everything this spring! Feel comfortable and confident at work. As my grandmother used to say, “ look good, feel good, do good.” At night, you’ll exude sexiness without trying to hard. One way to amp up your nighttime look is to swap out the under layer. Blouse for work, then try a slinky camisole. Another tip…change out your bra too. A t-shirt bra is ideal for the office. Put on a push-up bra or bralette after hours. This look is more for the adventurous woman. However, the blazer is a must-have in your wardrobe. Colorblocking, patterns and prints can be found from $79-$109 at TADofstyle.com. You’ll fall in love with the floral Dolce and Gabbana-inspired “Gabbana Blazer” or the beautiful blue “Blakeley Blazer!”
Pick your Battles:) May 23 2016
It’s all about the highs and lows…and I don’t mean your love life, work projects, or mood swings. It refers to your wardrobe and how you maximize your style and budget. Immediately when a fashionista mentions a high-low I think of a day dress. Not here. I’m going offer my input on when to pick your battles when it comes to shopping.
When at your fav boutique or at the mall, pretend you are a tiger. Slow, calculated, a predator, and quick to spot your prey. It’s really not that intense…it’s just shopping, lol. The meaning behind my terrible metaphor is to be a savvy shopper. Knowing when you splurge on your next prey or settle for a safari snack just to curb your appetite.
If your closet is stocked with all high-priced pieces, you’ll be broke in no time. Fashion is not worth it, and believe me, I love fashion. Shopping name brands all the time is kind of tacky these days. So not worth it if I haven’t expressed it enough. There’s a fine line walking between timeless and trendy. High-priced items can be disguised as either. You’ll only find out a year or two later. No fun in that game. As a stylist, I advise to incorporate a mix of both high-priced and budget-friendly looks. You’ll thank me later.
One recent summertime find is these pink & grey floral slip-ons by Mad Love, courtesy of Target. What a cute, easy-to-wear, and affordable shoe! Available on clearance for only $9.99 at most stores. Can’t beat that deal, which allows you to splurge a little more on other fab finds. The “Mariah Shorties” are a summer must and still reasonably priced ($69 at TADofstyle.com). Check out the pic here to get in the summer savvy shopper mood!
My Style Time in NYC! May 23 2016
Don’t you love it when clients appreciate your hard work, talent, and personality? I was lucky in my career thus far to be given an exciting and unexpected opportunity of a lifetime. Proving that you actually might know what you’re doing in your career? Thank God someone else sees it besides yourself:) Well I have a fun story I’d like to share. Hopefully, it will inspire other fashionistas and stylists to enjoy the ride leading to big rewards.
I have been styling a family in Winter Park, Florida for about six months now. Doing everything from personal shopping, alterations, wardrobe assessments, and closet clean-outs. Their daughter, Caroline, is graduating high school this year. She needed professional pics taken to use in her graduation announcements and to document such a huge milestone in her life. Fortunately, her godparents are professional photographers working on the upper east side of NYC. Of course they wanted to shoot such a monumental moment. So the family traveled to NYC to get her pics taken. As her stylist, we prepped her from outfits, hair and to make-up. Gotta find the perfect looks! Being eighteen is a big deal! Then out of the blue, the family asked if I wanted to join them for the weekend up in NYC. I was beyond shocked. Caroline wants me to be on set with her? The family wants to spend three days with me in the city! Like I said…beyond shocked. I was so unsure not wanting to intrude on their special time. However, they insisted I be included. So I decided to go. Not just for the opportunity, but because I truly enjoy spending time with this beautiful family.
Three days in NYC, here we come. We had such a fun time seeing the sights, eating good food, visiting Little Italy, etc. The shopping there isn’t too bad either;) Now let me describe the amazing experience styling Caroline’s shoot. Gotta get her prepped. Her hair, makeup, wardrobe…the works. I wanted her to feel like a million bucks and have the princess treatment. This was graduating high school in style! I mean who has a photoshoot stylist travel to New York. Caroline is one lucky young lady. I got her prepped and ready for set. Her godparents started inside with studio shots. Two looks, excellent lighting, and dressed to perfection. I couldn’t have been happier the way it turned out. Her godfather let me take a few sneak peeks at his camera;) Most people don’t realize the value of having a photoshoot stylist physically on set. It’s about looking and feeling your best so the photog can get the perfect shot. I helped move every hair in place, posing her body to show off her curves while staying skinny. Ya know…girl stuff!
Then we took the shoot to Central Park. It was the most beautiful scenery, but the coldest weather. In early March it was 37 degrees! Being a Florida girl, I couldn’t even comprehend 37 degrees. Unfortunately, I packed cute fall-season garb. I froze my ass off to say the least! Caroline was freezing during her shoot, but I felt helpful keeping her warm during quick wardrobe changes and the windy conditions. I learned so much about how to work with the photographer. It’s important to know your place and not interfere too much with the photog’s vision. You see, the photographer needs to be focusing on catching the light, keeping bystanders out of the shot, and portraying the essence of the moment. My job was to keep her happy, pumped up, and feeling beautiful. With those conditions, it wasn’t easy to re-apply gloss, touch-up hair, move clothing to make her outfits look fab, and keep her working the camera. I have to say this was such a fun and gratifying experience. A career opp I’ll remember and appreciate forever. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
